Where to start, where to start. It has been waaaay too long since I've blogged last. Many times I think of things that I want to blog about as I am laying my head down on the pillow at night. However, when it comes time to actually do the blogging, it never gets blogged. So, I am pulling out my calendar to look at what we've done since Mother's day and really...there isn't so much to report on. We took a trip to the Children's Museum, a story time, a couple of Charlie's softball games, some kind of flu attacked our house, a new tree in our front yard, yada yada yada.
Pretty much life as normal around here. I think we've hit the terrible twos, not horribly but not the cake walk that we were having. This is strongly a result of how much sleep we've had and what is attacking our immune systems at the moment too. Potty training is all but done during the days. Meg has it down at night and Hannah is getting there.
Kate is now sitting up by herself and loves to sit and play. Charlie reminded me of how we had a basket of toys for the girls when they were that age and Meg would just sit and empty the whole basket before she could crawl. So...I filled a basket for Kate and now she too just loves to sit and play. Kate is very social like Hannah and has to be a part of everything. If we are all sitting down at the table to eat, Kate wants to be there too, not just next to the table but in her high chair watching us all eat. She too is now eating three small baby meals a day too.
I have always thought that the hardest part of being a parent was watching your child in pain and not being able to do anything about it. I've learned this last week that there are a lot harder things about being a parent. While I don't know the Chapman family personally, I have just really struggled with the death of their daughter on many levels. Maybe it's more the pain I feel for their son and his grief. How do you mourn for your child (Maria), comfort a child (their son) in the midst of your own grief and help your children grieve their sister. I don't know that I could do it and while I want to be "found faithful" in my Savior's eyes, I selfishly pray that I don't have to endure something as painful as what their family is going through right now.
This time of year used to be my favorite, who doesn't love the summer. School was almost out, I'd start reminding people of my upcoming birthday about a month out, just so they would remember and help me celebrate. Then we got married at the beginning of June. This year we celebrate our 8th wedding anniversary, the two year passing of my dad, the second year of our family's beginning, and my 30th birthday. Not so much looking forward thinking about my dad being gone for the last two years, not seeing my three girls, not having him here to celebrate my birthday with me, not seeing all seven of his granddaughters playing together this summer, not golfing with my husband. I guess that list could go on and on but frankly it's too hard to continue and as I've said before, I wouldn't wish him away from what he's doing right now for anything but it just sucks that he isn't here.
Sorry to end there. Too tired and too emotional. Going to bed. Will post pics this weekend or early next week.
Wherefore also we make it our aim, whether at home or absent, to be well-pleasing unto him. II Corinthians 5:9

My Happy Mother's Day
As I reflect upon my second Mother's Day with children under foot, I am very content. Well, there are a variety of words that I feel but content is the overriding feeling at the moment. I woke up this morning to the not so beautiful gift that God gave each woman, the gift that can make us mothers, it just keeps on giving. You know the one I am talking about. But for once in my life, I was actually glad to see it come. So after a huge sigh of relief, I ran to warm up the bottle for my little one who woke me up with giggles in the monitor. More than an hour later I was met with more smiles as both princess Hannah and later princess Megan came down wishing me a Happy Mother's Day. It was a somewhat rushed morning as Charlie made breakfast for the ladies and we headed off to church to be in nursery. What better way to spend my Mother's Day morning then spending it with my girls and being a temporary mother to everyone else's children as well. I only had to clean up one kid's pee accident and thankfully she was wearing a dress. So, when she started to cry after being bonked on the head by another child and the tinkle started to run down her leg, it just puddled on the floor instead of soaking pants and socks. It was a pretty brilliant mother who dressed that child in a dress with no tights and croc shoes on a fifty degree day. I learned my lesson, I mean that mom must have learned her lesson and will hopefully put her child in a pull up next Sunday.
After a quick flower throwing practice for a wedding later this month, we headed off to brunch with Grandma. At brunch we were blessed to see some of our dear family who chose not to sit with us but watch our comedy from the next table. I wasn't offended, I too would have chosen: to sit where the adults outnumbered the children, you weren't required to cut up someone else's food, you didn't have to share the best part of your brunch or wipe off the face of the person sitting next to you. But it was fun to see them.
From there it was off to nap time, my favorite part of the day, usually. Only today, Kate was so overtired that just as I was nodding off to sleep, she woke up crying. Then Hannah decided to give me a running commentary through the monitor of the morning's events with a couple of songs thrown in there as well. She finally fell asleep just about the time I needed to wake up Megan who actually fell asleep right away. You see, this mom doesn't believe in unending naps because I like the kids to actually go to bed at a reasonable hour. So, almost every day, I wake up the girls-which really is my favorite part of the day!
So after a little cuddle time we headed off for a family grocery trip to Meijer. Uneventful and expensive but worth every dime (as we save all of our pennies for the mechanical pony and dino). Charlie then graciously made Belgian waffles as I put away the groceries and fed Kate her rice cereal and prunes. She proceeded to later yack them up all over my sleeve. After dinner we headed out for a lovely stroll around the neighborhood to step in puddles and look for worms. Then it was bath time for the monkeys. Kate didn't want Meg to feel bad for her accident at church and decided she too would like to urinate all over the bathmat in the brief seconds before getting into the tub. What's one more load of laundry when I have three to fold tonight anyway? It's a good thing I like laundry, and folding, and putting away, and then starting it all over the next day.
So now on this second Mother's Day, I've learned that it's ok to leaved dried prunes and rice on your shirt until the day is done, that there will be more laundry awaiting you tomorrow, that just because you put them to bed early doesn't mean they actually go to sleep early, and that time really does go quickly. My Hannah Mun and Megan Geun throw out complete paragraphs before I can get a word in edge wise and my little Kate isn't so little anymore and is sitting on her own now. But the good news is that all three of my girls still love to cuddle and are the most lovable, sweet, and silliest girls ever!

You WON'T Believe This...
His 6 Iron Golf Club: $50
Greens fees from the last 20 years: In the thousands
His first HOLE IN ONE: Priceless!!!!
Charlie got his first every hole in one on the golf course yesterday. He acted like it was no big deal but it IS A HUGE DEAL!!! I wish I could give you all the stats but these are what I know...
The course was Wuskowhan Players Club
The hole was lucky number 13
The club he used was his 6 Iron
It was a par 3 and 176 yards
Three witnesses can confirm it.
Sources tell me that it "was into the wind!"
Don't worry, we aren't loosing him to the pro circuit yet, but we will let him enjoy this sweetness for a little while.

More Zoo Pics
I might have convinced Aunt Carrie and Alicia what fun it is to "baby wear".
Meg used to really like just watching animals from afar. I thought that would be the case again but when we walked into the petting area, she just marched right up to this goat and started brushing him. We couldn't get her to leave.

"Oh mommy, I think he would be a nice addition to our new home. I promise I'll brush him every day!"

Hannah on the other hand...still liked watching from afar!
Alicia marched right up to the goats too.
"Mom...Can we bring this one home for Grandma?"

A visit to the local gardens here in MI.

Kate's 6 Month Check Up
Well, the one we refer to as "itty bitty" isn't so itty anymore. The Doc was very pleased to hear of what she is doing and commented on what a happy child she is. We would definitely concur with that and I might also add that she fits right in with our family in the area of sleeping as well.
Height: 27.25 inches (93rd %)
